2011 MINI Cooper Countryman S Diesel

We have some good news for all the Mini Diesel fans that crave a more powerful model. A car that combines the elements of the sporty MINI Cooper S and the fuel-efficiency of the MINI Diesel has been spotted in testing, suggesting that a new MINI Cooper S Diesel is in the works.

The photos show a "Cooper SD" badge that may be the short name for the upcoming car, as the current Cooper diesel is known as the Cooper D in Europe. According to onlookers, the first prototype, spotted last November, featured a typical diesel sound, and like the Cooper S model it features a centrally mounted exhaust, as well as a slightly restyled front bumper. The new car shows it will be available as a Cabrio as well, which is no real surprise given MINI's current model lineup.

Output from the car’s uprated engine is expected to range somewhere between 140 and 150 horsepower.

MINI hasn’t announced plans for any such model but given the completed look of this prototype, it appears as though the fuel-efficient sports hatch could be in production by next year--and this one could even reach the U.S.

  1. It seems the headlights resemble an audi but i won’t say much because I cant see the entire thing. I really hope it doesnt look like audi’s. the K7 has got enough comments on its rear lights totally resembling an audi’s. And how many ppl can one tell that Kia has an ex-Audi designer? i like the wheels in that day-time shot.

  2. Maybe we'll get in NA, NOT!!! I am so inclined in going VW it's silly, having an MCS 02 and 117k with over 195 whp I am like a baby with its mother's breast WON'T let go. I cant wait forever for MINI to come with grips with NA. I give it till summer to see what happens

  5. I'm wondering what makes you think it might be an option for the U.S.? Is there some type of clean diesel technology to be incorporated? Because otherwise this car will never meet our outdated environmental regulations.

  8. Is there a torque rating? That would be the important figure. Since Congress and California politicians don't like diesel, this engine will never come to the US. BMW would have to use their urine-in-a-box technology to qualify an additional engine for NA, and that engine would have to be used in multiple applications. M'kay.

  9. If not mistaken its suppose to be the 123d 2 liter DIESEL engine from BMW which by the way should be available in USA soon(in the form of the X1) so WTF is the problem here. No COMPRENDO BMW/MINI its the same freaking engine!!! The hell with California and the others if VW of america has been able to OUTSELL their Jettas/Golf DIESELS what's the differance between your product and thiers?!!! Dont even go with our product is better versus their's bullsheit!!
