When General Motors decided to put a 304 horsepower engine into the V-6 model and price it around $23K they thought most buyers would jump at the chance to own one. Now that we are about eight months into Camaro sales the opposite is true, most buyers instead are throwing caution to the wind opting for the V-8 SS model. The figures show two out of three 2010 Camaros sold are the V-8 SS model with a total of 47,233 Camaros sold so far this year. The cheapest V-8 equipped 2010 Camaro SS is $31,595 so its around an $8K price difference from the V-6 model.
According to Bob Lutz, GM vice chairman the V-6 Camaros actually cost GM almost as much to build as the V-8 versions. So GM has been perfectly ok with 2/3's of the Camaros sold being V-8 models.
