New Acura TSX Sports Wagon Set for Release in Fall of 2010

2009 Acura TSX

For years the Europeans have been onto something that we as Americans rarely understand. The beauty and utility of the luxury sports wagon. You see, to be European and to drive an SUV is to have succumbed to the overprotective U.S. based mommy culture. When Europeans drive a stylish, upscale wagon (or Tourer as they often times prefer to call them) they feel like open minded citizens of the world always on the hunt for the next patisserie or antique shop. Or at least that is how I imagine they think.

Unfortunately I live in the United States where you can buy an SUV in any shape size or color but if you try to go to an Audi or BMW dealer and ask about their wagons (or Avants in Audi speak) the salesman will look at you like you just landed there from Mars. Their usual reply is, we don't sell those. (Note: they both do but in small numbers.)

So Acura is taking quite the bold step in announcing that come fall 2010 they will be selling a sports wagon variant of its fun to drive TSX sedan. There is as yet no word on pricing or whether it will be equipped with the zesty 201 horsepower 2.4 liter 4 cylinder or the newly optional 3.5 liter 280 horsepower six. Or perhaps they might use that wonderful Honda diesel they keep writing about on the other side of the pond? (I won't hold my breath for the last one.)

When taken into consideration with the elite design statement that is the forthcoming ZDX (best seen in darker metallic hues) the new Acura TSX Sports Wagon (or Tourer) will be a welcome addition to the Acura family. Now who said you needed to drive an SUV again?
