2010 Hyundai Genesis Couope 2.0T R-Spec
At the 2009 SEMA Show, Hyundai will be showcasing their stripped-down Genesis Coupe for the first time since an earlier sighting at the Chicago Motor Show. It will feature most of the goodies you get from a normal Genesis 2.0T---with a smarter setup and better price.
The R-Spec is already being called the 'tuner-ready' version of Hyundais brilliant turbo coupe - buyers are being told to think of it as a blank canvas to create a new and unique racer.
Under the hood, the turbocharged 2.0-liter four cylinder engine remains, as does the six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive layout (with a limited slip differential). The R-Spec also gets the glorious Brembo braking system, which hides behind a set of redesigned 19-inch gunmetal/alloy wheels.
Slick driver electronics like stability/traction control, ABS, and brake assist will remain on this limited edition trim level.
The R-Spec will drop weight and costs by shedding luxury comforts like power windows and locks, as well as the sunroof and rear spoiler. Thankfully, this newest Genesis is set to sell for only $23,750---about $3,000 cheaper than the 2.0T Track model that it is based from.
Look for the Genesis R-Spec to hit showrooms in the very near future. Just like other stripped-out sports cars (Mitsubishi Evo RS, Subaru WRX STI carbon and the MX5 Super Light) this offering from Hyundai will serve as a track-ready monster straight from the factory. We like this trend and hope other carmakers are taking notes.
