Preview: Alfa Romeo Coming To the U.S in 2010

It's been a long wait, but the Italian sportscars of Alfa Romeo will be coming stateside next year. Chryslers partnership with Fiat has almost guaranteed the arrival these three models, which have become some of the most sought-after cars in history.

The 159 Sedan
The first new Alfa platform to arrive will be the four door 159 sedan. Its stylish Italian looks and build quality should make for an interesting competition to current American and European models.

The 159 will use a direct-injected 3.2-liter V6 that develops 260 horsepower and standard all-wheel drive to compete with other luxury car makers. BMW, Audi and Mercedes should watch their backs, as the 159 Sedan carries a base price of only $34,000.

The Brera Coupe
In Europe, the Brera has been a top competitor in the sport-hatch sector. Its sleek, yet sophisticated styling and 2+2 layout has made it a crowd-pleasing automobile. As with most modern Alfas, the Brera features the iconic triangular front grille and unmistakable headlamps.

This sport-hatch will use the same 3.2-liter V6 as the 159, and an available all-wheel drive system. The beauty of most Alfa Romeos (the Brera included) is their stiff but functional suspension setup. Look for this Italian beauty next year at a base price of $36,000.

The Spider
We have all been waiting to see Alfa Romeo make its comeback in America. With the Spider convertible, Alfa may just gain the following that must of us have always known it could.

The Alfa Romeo Spider will be available with a fuel efficient 2.2-liter four-cylinder in base form, and the 3.2-liter V6 from the 159 Sedan as an option. This two door drop-top will be substantially smaller and lighter than the 159 and Brera Coupe, so expect acceleration and handling to increase when it hits U.S. shores in 2010.
