The press for the Tokyo Auto Show has been building for months and no doubt this is to keep the press interested and the show attendance on an upward trend. We have seen stories on the Nissan’s newest environmental car, the Leaf, and Toyota’s FT-86. Now the latest story coming from the Tokyo scene is on a special edition Lotus Exige. Yes, this matte black with high-gloss racing strips Exige is to be the special edition Scura.

The Lotus Exige Scura isn’t just a special rim and paint job package; no, the Scura, which translates as “dark” from Italian, is meant to be a limited production performance machine. Besides the obvious paint details, the Scura also has launch and traction control systems standard, Ohlins two-way adjustable dampers (60 compression and 22 rebound settings), ride height adjustment and a supercharged 1.8-liter 257 hp engine. Wait! We can’t for get to mention that this Lotus is on a diet. Using carbon-fiber panels the Scura has shed an estimated 22 pounds, which helps it make the run from 0-60 in 4 seconds.

Just like anything that is special there aren’t going to be many of these made—a total of 35 to be exact. So if you are just itching for a black beauty that can race through the countryside, then this might be the Lotus for you. Best price estimates I have seen say this dark knight will set you back 61,885 Euros in Italy*.
