Shelby GT500KR Owner Hit with $31,000 Repair Bill for Minor Accident

I came across an interesting post over on SpokenTorque.com about a Shelby GT500KR owner who had a minor accident with a four-legged animal.  The damage to the GT500KR included a crumpled right front fender, a door slightly misaligned from the fender, minor hood damage and a dislocated mirror among other things.  The owner was thinking the minimal damage maybe somewhere in the range of $5K to fix the GT500KR but ended up getting a price quote for $31,000 in replacement parts from the manufacturer.  Who did this ridiculous quote come from, well it can only come from one of two places, Shelby Automobiles or Ford Racing and I have a good feeling it did not come from the Blue Oval.

What makes this interesting is the insurance company involved and the manufacturer are unable to come to an agreement on how to price the replacement parts which is holding up the repair process.  One of the parts needing to be replaced is the Carbon Fiber Hood which the manufacturer wants an astounding $18,000 for, yes you read that right $18K for a hood.  Talk about price gauging, you can buy a whole car for that kind of money.

This has been going on for two months while the GT500KR sits idle waiting to be fixed and an owner unable to drive his dream car.  If you think this story is false think again as it was verified by the site owner from actual documentation before it was posted up.  Below I have listed the parts needing to be replaced with the price quote the owner received.

    Bad stuff?

  2. The headlight is actually 950.00 EACH not 650.00 per pair. The splitter is 4515.00, the mirror is just under 500.00

  5. If I'm the KR owner, I'm going to ask someone to read that $18k to me again, and then they're getting slapped upside the head. Then I'm going to ask them to read it again. Repeat as necessary.

  6. Geezzzz!!!! No wonder something tells me to rarely drive my KR. Not sure now if the investment is worth the gamble, especially with the luck i have on the road. Maybe i better just stick to driving my Hertz car. No doubt it would be cheaper to repair...........Chalie

  8. If you guys thing this hood is expensive try $140k for an SLR hood. This is why Speedcraft Composites was started to repair carbon fiber correctly rather then replacing it. If any one wants more info feel free to check us out at www.speedcraftcomposites.com
