Sales figures have been released for August with the Chevrolet Camaro outselling the Ford Mustang for the third straight month.  These figures come as no surprise given the backlog of orders Chevrolet is filling for the Camaro.  Will this continue through the end of the year, your guess is as good as mine but we like the direction it's going.  On another note what has happened to the Ford Mustang with three months of lackluster sales even as Ford gave the 2010 Mustang a refresh.  Have Camaro sales put that much of a dent into the Mustang?  Let us know your thoughts in the comments.  Sales figures below.

Sales of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro for August of 2009 were 8,680 compared to 7,113 from the previous month showing a 22% increase in month to month sales.  Year to date Camaro sales are 31,190.

If you are looking for previous Camaro sales figures check out July 2009, June 2009, and May 2009 sales.

  1. Even better, the camaro outsold the mustang and challenger COMBINED! And it did it with very few available on dealership lots, allocations almost gone for many locations AND at a primium above msrp in most areas! Stunning

  2. Not to hard to sell more when the plants are open during BK. Challengers were sidelined due to the plant being down for restructuring and then 2 weeks for retooling to start 2010 production..
Personally I hope that they sell more Camaro then Challengers, just makes my ride all that more more special...

  3. I just read both the Camaro and Mustang articles and I can believe it. I am in the middle of looking at a Camaro SS or Mustang GT. Our local Ford dealers have Mustangs that I have seen on their lot for months while the only Camaros at the dealers are those which are ordered and their one demo car. Chevrolet can't keep their Camaros on the lot. When you figure that the Camaro is priced right between the GT and the GT500 and has nearly identical performance and better gas mileage to the Gt and GT500, it is no wonder that the Camaros can't stay on the lot and are outselling the Mustangs.

  4. Being the owner of an '06 Mustang GT, which I love, I can still see how the Camaro will outsell the '10 stang, refresh. Ford dropped the ball big time, by adding a funky rear end and going less retro, instead of more retro, which is what really sold the 2005-2009 models, to start with. the exterior black band around the GT's also makes the car look like it sits high and narrow. A terrible re-do in my book. The interior is an improvement, but not enough to overcome the exterior!
Camaros and Challengers look better, at least on the outside. Can't say I like the Camaro dash much.
All this is based on how the cars look. Chevy and Dodge, having more HP doesn't hurt!

  5. Being the owner of an 1969 Camaro Z/28,I just love the 2010 Camaros. Its heavily based on the 1969 body style.I knew from the start it would defenitly outsell the 2010 Mustang. The 2010 Mustang is so bland looking, and gutless in performance against the mighty Camaro. Its about time Chevrolet is back in the pony car market since 2002.Lets bring back the YENKO Camaro,it'll blow the doors off a Shelby Mustang.

  6. The 2010 Camaros are sweet.I just love the body lines of the car.The 2010 is based on the old '69 bodystyle.I really don't care for the '10 Mustangs. The style is so boring. The problem with Mustangs is that there too common.A dime of dozen. There everywhere.Being a girl,I consider the Mustang a chicks car.I'm defenitly going with a Camaro. They should bring back the Z/28's.Next month(November),I'll be ordering a new 2010 Camaro Transformers edition at the famed dealership of Felix Chevrolet in Los Angeles.I'm so excited...
