Teams agree to more cost-cutting measures

Jan.9 (GMM) A Heathrow hotel on Thursday was the scene of more moves by formula one teams to continue to cut spending costs.

In a joint press release, the so-named FOTA alliance said unanimous agreement was reached on matters including aerodynamic test restrictions for 2009, which is believed to govern a reduction in wind tunnel usage.

It was also agreed that low-cost, long-life and development-frozen transmissions will be designed for 2010, while a working group will identify which components and systems can be made cheaper.

"All of the teams are committed to working together in a rational and systematic manner ... to effectively reduce the costs inherent to formula One," the statement said.

FOTA said the same approach will now be used to improving "the spectacle of the sport".
