BMW next to face FIA engine checks

Sep.30 (GMM) BMW is to be the third engine manufacturer subjected to inspections to test conformity with the engine freeze.

After Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes-Benz unit was checked and given the all-clear following the German grand prix, the FIA looked into the 2.4 litre V8 used by Ferrari's Felipe Massa at Spa-Francorchamps.

Next, ahead of the forthcoming Japanese grand prix at Fuji, the governing body has announced the investigation of the power plant fitted to Nick Heidfeld's BMW-Sauber.

The routine check involves comparing the German's Singapore-specification engine with the homologated unit submitted to the FIA at the beginning of the season.
