This is an image of the upcoming CR-V which will enter the compact SUV market in late 2007. Based on the Civic platform, the new CR-V will remain a five-seater but, will share many parts with the larger Acura RD-X which is already in production.

Gone is the ruggedness of the previous model. This latest version appears much more curvaceous than previous generations, with styling that’s similar to the Mazda CX-7 and Nissan Murano.

Powerplants will most likely be a 170bhp 2.4-litre petrol engine but some markets may stick with the existing 2.0-litre engine. There are even plans for a hybrid version in the pipeline.

Driving dynamics will be enhanced by Honda’s SH-AWD four-wheel drive system found in the current Legend. Torque can be distributed between left and right wheels as well as front and rear axles.

This is one design direction we would not follow, the dual grille design screams ugly. They had it with the Civic Type-S, what went wrong?
