Toyota is about to release the 10th generation of one of the world’s most popular cars. The Corolla name plate has been with us since 1966 with around 30 million cars built since then.

This latest version, which will now be unveiled in 2008 after initial predictions of a 2007 launch, aims to make up ground which Toyota has loss to the Korean manufacturers. There’s likely to be a hybrid version and maybe even a diesel to go along with the 1.8-litre petrol powerplant. Different bodies will include a hatchback and wagon.

From these sketches it’s clear that styling will be heavily influenced by cars such as the Yaris and Avensis.

  6. it is a vast improvement from the current design but it isnt as daring as the current benchmark the mazda3 and the honda civic. ive owned a mazda3 and i have to say it feels more substancial than a corolla, my brother has an '06, and i have to say you can corner the mazda3 with confidence and from what i hear about the civic it has the same characteristics as the mazda3 but in a quirky honda format. for me it has more style but compared to the mazda3 and the honda civic it is just plain vanilla, like the redesigned camry, vast improvement but not as eye catching as the mazda6, altima and the quirky subaru legacy.

  8. This is a good looking upgrade, but I bemoan the fact that Toyota has not added a more powerful
engine. Come on folks you have several fourbangers in your engine depot which would deliver more zip and still be frugal to operate. I'm thinking 145 to 155 Hp.
I am also totally convinced that many Corolla owners echo my sentiments.
Please take notice that Honda...Nissan...Mazda... Ford...GM have models which outclass you
    in this department.
    Just food for thought, Yours,

  9. The 2008 model Toyota Corolla looks like a nice car but needs better performance
like the 2007 model Honda Civic SI.
Time will tell if Toyota Motors finally realize the need for a better performance based
    car like Honda.
