Although it seems obvious that you’re more likely to be involved in an accident if you’re attempting to eat or drink while driving, we now have test figures that show you’re chance of crashing is actually double that of normal driving. This is usually because of slower reaction times despite drivers being more careful to compensate for the lack of concentration while eating or drinking.

The tests were conducted using a Driving Simulator with participants requested to drive initially without any food and then again with food. Alarmingly, the total number of crashes doubled in the second scenario – nine out of ten incidents occurred while food or drink was in the hand.

Unfortunately for motorists eating or drinking is far more accepted than using a mobile, most people would not even consider it as dangerous but according to these results eating or drinking is just as dangerous as using the mobile which has been banned in most countries.
