Here we have two different Porsche vehicles from very different eras. One’s the modern day 997 Turbo that was just released, while the other is the infamous 959 from more than twenty years ago. Click here anyone who’s not familiar with the
Porsche 959 for our previous report about one for sale on eBay. Looking at the figures for each car, there isn’t really much between them. Both are twin-turbo charged AWD drive beasts that produce in excess of 400hp, so it begs the question, which one’s better?
A comparo by driver Kevin Hackett has turned up on the PistonHeads website pitting the two supercars against each other. The 997 Turbo offers seamless power delivery and zero turbo-lag but isn’t what you’d call beautiful. It could be described as the “most useable supercar money can buy today.” The 959 on the other hand simply roars, gets down and launches so hard that it’s difficult to describe, but it can feel soft too and is thus limited to being more of a GT rather than supercar.
Sadly, both the cars share a common problem. According to Hackett, “both the 959 and the 997 Turbo lack soul, character and a sense of fun.” Click ahead to find out more.
