We previously reported the news that UK engineering firm Project Kimber was planning to build a new version of the discontinued Smart roadster with the help of designer, Gordon Murray. UK’s Auto Express is reporting that the group of industry experts are set to rebuild a re-engineered version based on the current Smart Car but with totally revised sheet metal under the AC label.

The rendering of the new car, shows the inclusion of a new set of round headlamps sitting atop a large mesh grille. Expect to see the car in showrooms as early as next year in both coupe and roadster forms with prices starting from £13,000. Mechanicals may be updated with a new range of engines plus a new gearbox to replace the slow automated manual version from the original Smart.

Working alongside Gordon Murray on the project is John Piper whose previous achievements include helping to build the JCB Dieselmax land speed record car.
