Here’s a video of one of our favourite road cars of all time against a Williams F1 car, circa 2003. We apologise in advance for the French, but you can simply mute the video because all the distances and times are shown graphically.
This reminds us of the observations we made when looking at Autobild’s 0-100kph-0 test of most modern sports cars. The difference in braking between a $50,000 car and $300,000 car in terms of distance was negligible. Sure, the $300,000 car would probably come with carbon ceramic brakes that resist brake fade when going around a track, but they still don’t brake in less distance. Is this a sign of stagnant development in brake systems?
It is the tires that are limiting braking distances now and not the brake systems.

that is just a regular BMW 3 series coupe.

You're right Jim, there are none of the regular strakes on the side of a M3. It looks like it has a M3 bodykit though, which is what originally threw us off.
