When Mercedes-Benz first launched its CLS back in 2004, it instantly became a success due to its unique and interesting styling.

Its design is so popular that many other manufacturers will be implementing the four-door coupe look for their latest models, including arch rival BMW which might feature the design for a new model. Expected to be launched in 2009, the new car will be positioned between the current 5- and 7-Series sedans, essentially positioning it alongside the 6-Series range.

Several German publications produced renderings of the car featuring reverse-opening rear doors similar to that used on the Mazda RX-8, but we're expecting more conventional styling. BMW is not alone in its attempts to copy Mercedes; new models from both Volkswagen and Audi will adopt the same design and even Mercedes’ next E-Class sedan could go the same way.
