
Spy Shots: 2008 Toyota Landcruiser
The current Toyota Landcruiser is showing its age against tough competition from its main rivals despite the minor facelift it received last year. The next generation model, caught testing in Europe by spy photographers, couldn’t come soon enough. The heavily clad test mule shows a familiar shape, in fact the taillights look almost identical to the current model, but look closer and you’ll notice that the new Landcruiser is more curvaceous and larger all ‘round.
Seen running alongside this prototype was a
Mercedes ML SUV, perhaps a sign of the quality we can expect from the new cruiser. Engine options will include a large capacity V6 as well as a rumored V8 twin-turbo
diesel displacing 4.5L, which should be good for 269hp (200kW) and 479ft-lbs (650Nm) of torque, plus a new Aisin six-speed auto. Toyota is likely to position the new Landcruiser more up market with interior shots revealing wood paneling and chrome trim. Check out the photos over at
