Honda invents “car cams” to help avoid traffic jams

With cities getting ever more populated and people buying more and more cars, it’s no wonder that traffic jams are out of control in some places. Honda’s wacky solution is to place tiny camera into wing mirrors that would transmit images of the traffic to a central server using a mobile phone network. The cars would also transmit GPS data allowing the server to pinpoint traffic jams and guide you around them.

This information would be placed in a real-time video database accessible from your car’s navigation system. Despite the obvious privacy issues, Honda is adamant that the data submitted will be completely anonymous and that the cameras will switch off when the car is not in use. Our thoughts? It’s time for Honda to go back to the drawing board.
