We rarely cover
vans on Motor Authority, preferring instead to write about high-performance exotica, but we couldn’t resist this extended Ford transit van. The Transit XXL literally stretches the van to new lengths and is made from two short wheel base Transit Tourneo models which have been meticulously joined together. The Transit XXL carries the driver plus seven passengers in full 'first class' comfort. It measures 7.4m in length, more than a meter longer than the biggest
Maybach. The Transit XXL also features four full sliding doors – two on each side – while the entire vehicle has privacy glass allowing occupants to be transported in appropriate anonymity. The XXL was extensively strengthened under the floor and in the roof to ensure that the vehicle is torsionally rigid and safe, and weighs in at 2500kg.
We wonder whether Ford will be hiring it out to weddings and formals to help erase its massive debt.

There is a lot of potential in something like this.

Talking to the boys at Ford though, it's never going to be a production model because it would cost too much, but if you want a cool looking minibus that will carry more than seven passengers, the standard Transit Minibus would do well, or if you want a luxury version, then a glazed long wheelbase Transit panel van that is then given to a custom bodybuilder is also a strong possibility for less than Ford would charge for two vans joined together! We've done a lot of specialist conversions so we could find someone to make on if you reall fancied one - just a thought!
