One of the star attractions planned for the upcoming New York Auto Show, Infiniti’s new G37 Coupe has been revealed ahead of its official embargo date. Aimed squarely at BMW’s popular 3-series coupe, the new Infiniti comes packed with a stroked version of Nissan’s multi-award winning VQ engine and now displaces 3.7L. The powerplant comes with Nissan’s all new Variable Valve Event and Lift technology, which provides the engine with a flatter torque curve and improved power delivery right across the rev-range.

Final output is 330hp and 270lb-ft, while the engine's redline is set at 7,500rpm. Customers will be able to opt for a conventional six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed self shifter, and limited-slip differential will be available with some models. The next-generation FM platform, which underpins the new G, is 36% stiffer than the previous G35 and has a wider track and a lower center of gravity. Other new additions include firm springs, larger sway bars and 18in wheels as standard, plus an all new four-wheel active steering system. The first cars should be in showrooms by the middle of the year.

Considering that the new G37 is packing so much performance, we’re shocked that its designers have dropped the sharp and edgy design of the previous model and have instead gone with a softer and more porky shape. The concept car was everything that the new G coupe should have been, but this car looks as though it has had a few too many milkshakes.

    Since all I want is a rear drive, powerful 2+2 convertible, the BMW 3 and Benz CLK are the only choices.
    Shame.
    This car would look so great as a convertible...

    Infiniti should have kept more of the original design. This one closely resembles a IS350 in the front at some angles. Too bad the performance is the only good part

    Personally i love the styling - aggressive without flamobyant gills and spoilers etc that attract attention.

    You can definitely see where the 350z DNA comes in, and it looks like the styling has evolved along with the powerplant
