The new Flex is the replacement for Ford’s now defunct Freestar minivan, and is a prime example of the trend towards more flexible and stylish crossover-style MPVs. The vehicle will be manufactured at the Blue Oval’s Oakville Assembly Plant in Ontario alongside the Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers. Lincoln is expected to offer its own crossover model based on the same platform underpinning the Flex.
Late last year, Ford’s head designer J. Mays said the production version of the Fairlane will be almost identical to the concept car. Inside, there’ll be seating available for six passengers but the Flex won’t get the suicide style rear doors as seen on the concept.
