Buick’s latest creation, the new
Riviera concept car, totally breaks the staid image of the brand normally associated with cardigan wearers. Penned at General Motors’ Pan Asia Technical Center in China, the new concept is said to showcase Buick’s new global design theme and is scheduled to be displayed at the upcoming Shanghai Auto Show.
Designed as a genuine 2+2 GT, the Riviera features gullwing doors, a sloping coupe profile and short overhands both front and rear housing massive multi-spoke alloys. Although there are no production plans for a vehicle based on the Riviera, its designers are touting it as a “global” concept and we’ll soon be seeing it doing the rounds at key international motor shows following the show in Shanghai.
Strangely, the Chinese market favors classic American names like the Riviera. Buick’s other models sold in the nation include names like Regal and Park Avenue. Funny, the US get laughable names such as
LaCrosse and Lucerne.
