Since its launch back in 2003,
Scion has insisted that three models were enough. But as the label becomes more popular, company execs are considering adding new models to satisfy that demand. Scion corporate manager Steve Haag, who spoke with
The Car Connection, explained that management wants to expand the brand by adding new models but still want to remain a small player.
Haag wasn’t willing to admit what they had in plan but hinted that Scion will remain in the small, entry-level segment but could also add a more up-market or slightly larger model to its lineup in the near future. He also mentioned that a
hybrid is possible but only if the price of the technology comes down from its current levels.
Despite
Scion's knack for quickly adopting changing trends, Haag admitted that they missed the boat on the development of ultra fuel-efficient models. The new xD is Scion’s most economic model and it only rates at 27mpg in city driving, and this is certainly a factor that will affect any future model.
