GM’s Vauxhall division has dusted off the Sri performance badge for a new version of the Corsa hot-hatch that sits below the VXR. Petrol versions are powered by a new detuned 148hp version of the turbocharged engine found in Corsa VXR, taking the SRi from 0-60mph in just 7.6 seconds and on to a top speed of 130mph.

A diesel model will also be offered, using a 1.7-litre CDTi engine with 123hp. Acceleration figures are down to 9.3s for the 0-60mph run, but the car achieves achieves an average economy of 58.9 mpg.

To deal with the extra power Vauxhall has modified the chassis by lowering it 18mm at the front and 15mm at the rear and featuring ESP as standard. The power steering also features variable progressive feedback.

Also included is a body kit featuring a front spoiler, side sills, 17-inch alloy wheels, chrome sports exhaust pipe and a subtle tailgate spoiler. Inside, red-detailed sports seats, a leather-trimmed steering wheel with red inserts, alloy pedals and red seatbelts further emphasise the performance potential.
