Spy Shots: Undisguised 2009 Toyota Land Cruiser

The next-generation Toyota Land Cruiser has been spotted again sans disguise, ahead of its launch at the Tokyo Motor Show later this year. Toyota is sticking with its tried and true formula of an affordable full-size SUV with off-road capability and the carmaker’s trademark reliability for its latest Cruiser.

New to the model range will be the addition of Toyota’s 5.7L V8 engine sourced from the Tundra pickup, as well as a new 4.5L V8 turbodiesel, and a hydraulic or air-suspension system.

The new model will be aimed as a more up-market vehicle and will feature more chrome and wood paneling for the interior. As the spy shot reveals, a new information screen will sit center, while the steering wheel picks up several frequently used controls.

The first cars should appear in showrooms by the first half of next year.
