Spy Shots: VW Phaeton Coupe-Cabrio

Volkswagen is confirmed to be building a new four-door coupe model based on its midsized Passat sedan but a new two-door variant of the upmarket Phaeton may also make it to production. New spy images of a test-mule wearing Audi A8 panels and missing the rear doors reveals that developers are testing a new coupe model.

The next-gen Phaeton will be built using Audi’s modular-length platform design, which will also spawn the next A6 and A8 saloons. The unique architecture would also allow engineers to build the same models but with a shorter coupe-sized wheelbase.

It appears VW remains keen to expand into the premium market, evident by this latest mega-coupe as well as the upcoming Passat-based four-door coupe. Head over to Winding Road to see the images in full.
