Ford has released new details and pictures of the upcoming Shelby GT500KR edition after a recent visit by auto legend Carroll Shelby to the company’s Dearborn Proving Grounds. The company now claims the GT500KR will develop an estimated 550hp, around 10hp more than the figure they have previously announced. Of course, Ford may just be playing games with the competition and could increase the horsepower ratings yet again. The model, dubbed ‘KR’ for “King of the Road,” is still less powerful than the top-of-the-line Super Snake Mustang in the works, which is expected to deliver over 600hp, as well as a version pumping out an amazing 725hp.

Other features expected to make an appearance on the GT500KR include 6-speed manual transmission, upgraded exhaust system, performance suspension tuning including new springs and dampers, a new wheel set, as well as the usual assortment of badging and detailing you would expect on a limited edition model such as this.

  1. Any chance of an independent rear suspension?

    Bad stuff?

  2. That's what I'm wondering.
I hear with a few modifications (from Saleen or Rousch, I believe) the Mustang can be made to handle extremely well (even impressing Jeremy Clarkson, of all people), but an IRS would just be so much smoother, I would think.
