Nissan’s Mixim Concept was one of the more radical concepts of last week’s Frankfurt Motor Show but, according to one exec, the technology showcased in it was very real and will be coming to production cars by the end of the decade. The concept car featured Nissan’s new ‘SuperMotor’ electric powertrain, which consists of a compact lithium-ion battery array powering an independent electric motor on each axle.

During a recent interview with BusinessCar, Nissan’s Euro product boss Pierre Loing revealed “electric SuperMotor technology could launch at the end of the decade in Japan and reach Europe a year or two later. Loing also hinted that the technology could be used in some of Nissan’s existing models.
