Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz AMG SL Black Series

A widebody next-gen SL prototype has been spotted cruising the streets around the Nürburgring and is tipped to be a new AMG Black Series version of the facelifted SL. Huge fender flares, a rear diffuser with quad exhaust pipes and a fixed roof will differentiate the new Black Series SL from the regular AMG arsenal and expect to see plenty of carbon-fiber pieces littering the car including its new roof. The vents in the camo covering the hood also suggests there'll be a new vented bonnet under there.

Previous reports claimed Mercedes was developing a new lightened performance version of the SL, which would weigh up to 100kg less than the current model and output around the 700hp mark. Mercedes is also working on a new sports car with its racing partner HWA but this is said to be based on the next-gen SL platform.

  1. For all their expensive as heck gasoline and their crowded (much of the time) roads, the Germans are sure serious about their performance cars. It seems, however, that you have to be far wealthier there (in Europe) to enjoy power (cost of the vehicles, taxes, gas, etc) than in the US, where less than 30k Euros buys you a 350z, Mustang GT or a Camaro (eventually) with a big V8, and 3 Euros gets you 4 liters of gas.

    Bad stuff?

  2. MB keeps its free falling, now having to resort to stupid names(Black Label? Isn't that a Johnny Walker whiskey?) and gimmicks to grab headlines.
