Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) is celebrating its 20th birthday this year at the 2007 Australian International Motor Show in Sydney. As part of the celebration, HSV has unveiled the new Maloo R8 Ute. The Thunder from Down Under (the Maloo takes its name from an aboriginal word meaning thunder or storm) concept Ute is aimed to take the sports utility format to the next level.

A slew of unique HSV-only features are found on the new Maloo: a 307kW (407hp) motor, AP Racing four-piston brake calipers, Group A Walkinshaw inspired side skirts, suede HSV performance seats, remote release hard tonneau, reverse parking sensors, and a Performance Pack consisting of 20-inch wheels and full leather seats.

The already striking visual appearance of the Maloo is enhanced by touches specific to the R8 Ute. The aggressive curves and planes took the design team over two years to perfect. Performance is designed to match its looks, with HSV calling the R8 its most responsive ute ever, offering a 'complete driving package.'

The Maloo R8 Ute will retail from AUD$59,990 base price. An automatic transmission is available as a AUD$2,000 extra. The Performance Pack mentioned above will run you an extra AUD$3,750. Interested buyers can find the HSV Maloo R8 for sale at dealerships across Australia now.
