Marking the introduction of the Astra sport-compact in the U.S., Saturn will show off a tuner-inspired example at this week’s SEMA Auto Show in amongst the array of GM customized and high-performance cars, trucks and SUVs. The new car should stand out from the crowd thanks to its flashy paint work and custom body moldings and although officials are calling this a concept we can envisage some features making it to the final production version.

The Astra Tuner is based on a production XR three-door and features roughly 20hp more than the standard car and a lowered ride height. Numerous exterior enhancements including 19in wheels, new front and rear bumpers, a new grille and tinted lights and windows all add to the performance feel of the car.

Power comes from the same 1.8L Ecotec four-cylinder engine as the standard car but with the extra power bump courtesy of new exhaust headers, a cold-air intake and modified throttle body. Drive is sent through the front wheels via a five-speed manual transmission.

Inside, the car gets sporty Recaro buckets, metal sill plates and pedals and a Blaupunkt sound system.
