Wagons and crossovers accounted for almost half of Volvo’s sales in the US last year, so it comes as little surprise the carmaker will be adding even more of these models to its lineup in the near future. The first of these will be the XC60 crossover, which is expected to make an appearance at March’s Geneva Motor Show before going on sale in late 2008/early 2009.
Volvo is yet to reveal engine specs for the final production version but previous reports claim the range will start with a 1.8L petrol unit, followed by a 2.5L turbo and a 3.2L six. Diesel models will include 1.8L and 2.3L engines.
The XC60 will have a lot of strong competitors when it hits the streets next year. Some of its rivals include cars like the upcoming Mercedes GLK and Audi Q5 as well as the current BMW X3, Land Rover Freelander/LR2 and VW Tiguan.
