Bryan Nesbitt, most famous for his work on the Chrysler PT Cruiser, has returned to the States to head up Buick’s design team. The American spent the last four years leading the design team at General Motors Company’s [NYSE:GM] International Operations, based in Shanghai, China, and is taking over from Mark Adams, who was leading the design of both the Buick and Opel brands.

According to Automotive News (subscription required), Nesbitt started his new role at Buick on June 1. He will report to Ed Welburn, GM’s overarching design chief.

Nesbitt first started working for GM in 2001 and has penned cars for a number of its brands including Buick, Cadillac and Saturn. He was also in charge of running the Cadillac brand briefly following GM’s bankruptcy.

At Buick, Nesbitt will be tasked with overseeing designs for several key vehicles like the next-generation Enclave and possibly a production version of the stunning Avenir concept car.

Replacing him in China is Ken Parkinson, who most recently was in charge of design of Chevrolet’s truck division. Parkinson has previously worked at GM’s China-based International Operations. And John Cafaro, a GM veteran who was previously in charge of design of Chevy’s car division, will now oversee design for both the car and truck divisions at the bowtie brand.
