Whether or not
Audi will in fact build a V12-powered R8 TDI
diesel supercar is still up in the air but a handful of journalists from around the world have been fortunate enough to drive the concept version. Executives plan to make a final decision for production by the middle of the year after all considerations concerning the economy and market forces are taken into account.
One of the biggest hurdles the R8 V12 TDI faces is the fact that Audi has plans to launch a
new V10 RS-R8 flagship. Considering the niche status of both cars it doesn’t make sense for Audi to separately develop and launch two different range-topping R8 models. For now the closest thing we have to seeing the real thing on the road is the driving video from our colleagues at Sweden’s
Auto Motor and Sport.

I say Audi “stand up” and build the car!! Sure it will be difficult to make a proper transaxle that will withstand the engines 738 foot/lbs of torque at just above idle. They have one in the R10 just make that one smaller to fit in the R8.
Audi show some guts, and take the hard road to make this car a reality. Then you’ll have many happy customers like the gentlemen at the end of the video. Hey how many exotic sports cars are out there that can make you scream with joy and still get you close to 30 miles per gallon?
