2008 cadillac cts v motorauthority 001
Updated with official video.
With the GT-R's recently lowered Nordschleife lap time set at 7m 29s, a drop of nine seconds from its previous 7m 38s lap, General Motors responded with speculation that the ZR-1 would handily take the production car lap record at any track in the world. While we have yet to see the General prove that claim, the latest showing from the upcoming
CTS-V lends some credence to its possibility.
The
5-series sized sedan with what is essentially a detuned version of the same motor that powers the ZR-1 lapped the Nurburgring's north loop in a scant 7m 59.32s - a time that GM claims is the fastest ever recorded for a production sedan. Piloted by John Heinricy, a GM executive and racing driver, the car was outfitted precisely like the company plans to ship the first production cars later this year.
With
Cadillac's build quality and workmanship in the CTS series rising to levels widely acclaimed as competitive with its German rivals, the CTS-V's performance exploits are proving that GM is serious about moving
Cadillac into a globally competitive sports
luxury brand.

so that isnt even takign the S5 then ? that is a coupe though.
The RS4 and RS6 would smash the Caddy time...and dispel the theory that it is the fastest. Its a silly claim if you ask me

I think even the standard v8 that will be dropped into the Lexus will be faster than the caddy

7:59 - '09 CTS-V
8:05 - BMW M3 (e92) Note that this time is for a coupe on R-compound tires; Remember, the V is a larger 5-series sized car, was using it's production stock street tires for it's timed run, and still bested the M3 by over 5 seconds.
8:09 - '08 Audi RS6
8:15 - BMW M5 (e60)
8:19 - '04 CTS-V
8:22 - BMW M3 (e46)
8:25 - '00 Audi RS4
8:31 - '05 STS-V
8:40 - '08 CTS
8:50 - '00 Mercedes Benz E55 AMG (Note: Also on a shortened Nordshleife)
Notice that it not just beats those times, but destroys them by around 10 seconds each.
If the impressiveness of the V2's time has not yet sunk in, consider this: John Heinricy's almost leisurely-like stroll around the 'Ring in the V2 matches the record Porsche 911 Carrera S (an '04 997 w/ performance chassis option) time set by none other than the legendary Walter Rohrl.
