Chevrolet’s upcoming
Camaro muscle car is rumored to feature a powertrain line-up ranging from a
compact four-cylinder turbo engine up to a big cube V8 with everything in between. With fuel prices continuing to reach record levels, even performance fans will have to consider more economic options and to cater for this GM is giving as much attention, if not more, to developing a high-output V6 engine for the Camaro.
The prototype seen here in these latest spy images is one of the new V6 variants that is expected to be revealed at this September’s
Indy ‘08 Back at the Brickyard event. According to
Jalopnik, the throttle-body size and shape, plus the bolts holding it in, indicate that this is GM’s 304hp direct-injection 3.6L V6 from the
Cadillac CTS. Another clue about the car is that it will house the battery in the trunk just like the
Pontiac G8.
Other engines the Camaro may feature include the 260hp 2.0L turbo four-cylinder from the
Pontiac Solstice and Saturn Sky as well as a 6.2L V8. A high-performance ‘SS’ model is tipped to get the new LS3 V8 from the Pontiac G8 GXP and should developing around the 425hp mark.

I'm just wondering how much power this engine puts out and how low and with what efficiency.
If it gets better mileage, makes the same torque down low and the same power up top as my V8 with a liter less displacement, two less cylinders, on regular gasoline, that is quite an accomplishment...
