Prototypes for Kia’s replacement for the aging Spectra sedan have been spotted cold-weather testing in recent months and now we have the first official image of the upcoming car. Set to go on sale next year as a 2010 model, the new Spectra sedan replaces a model that was last updated in 2005 and could come in both sedan and hatchback forms. The information accompanying the teaser images indicates the car is called the Forte.

The latest teaser shows that Kia’s new Spectra will adopt styling features from the recently revealed Koup concept vehicle. The production car could also feature the concept’s 290hp Theta II turbocharged engine in flagship form, although Kia is yet to reveal any official details. Expect to see naturally aspirated 1.6 and 2.0L four-cylinder engines as well.

Other new features that could make production include a new independent front suspension featuring MacPherson struts and independent dual link rear set-up, plus an engine-speed-sensitive steering system and a set of active dampers.

  1. if you look at the other spectra spy shots and compare them to the koup concept and the sedan concept above you will see the lame 2 in door molding on the actual production models ruins the look of the car..

    no door molding

once again the concept car suckers us into thinking they can make something cool for the public then deliver garbage....

    Bad stuff?

  2. This teaser shot BS has gotten really far now if Kia is doing it. You can have teaser shots of Aston Martins, Bentleys and the like but no gives a rat's ass about Kia and with this ploy they don't create expectation but invite ridicule.

  3. @Me

That could be the overall disguise to camoflage the car, so the molding may not be there, or it may be an option for those who want less door dings.

  5. I LIKE this design. How rapidly this company evolved from gorky to blah to maybe to well-I'll-be-darned! These people pay attention to tastes!
