SMS Supercars Releases Details & Sketch of 460 Mustangs

I know this post is about a week late with this news coming in around the 45th anniversary Mustang celebration but I thought why not post it up for those 5 or so of my faithful followers who only read my blog exclusively.  We have already known for quite sometime Steve Saleen and his new company SMS Supercars will be building a signature series line of Ford Mustangs dubbed the 460 and 460X but details were scarce and they have now come to the surface following a sketch and press release.

SMS Supercars will be producing both the SMS Mustang 460 and 460X.  All SMS 460 Mustangs will be fully certified and street legal featuring extensive visual upgrades and performance innovations, including the patented SMS Red Butterfly Induction hood along with a full compliment of SMS ultra-high performance components.

Under the hood the SMS 460 Mustang uses the 4.6-liter V-8 engine that will produce a minimum of 470 horsepower and 427 ft-lb of torque.  The SMS 460X Mustang being the more powerful of the two will use new internals and a 5.0-liter V-8 to deliver 655 horsepower and 600 ft-lb of torque.  Both will use the SMS 296 Supercharger to obtain those insane horespower levels.  Transmission options include a 5-speed automatic or a 5-speed manual on the SMS 460 and the SMS 460X will use a 6-speed SMST manual.

Other goodies found on all SMS 460 Mustangs include unique badges, grapics, upgraded drivetrain, Watt's linkage suspension, unique aerodynamic body pieces, SMS front and rear brakes, tires, wheels and Alcantara & leather SMS performance seats and interior panels covered in hand-stitched high-quality leather.

Performance for both cars will be stout with the 460 Mustang going 0-60 in the low 4 second range, while the 460X will be even lower in the 4 second range.

The front fascia treatment, the SMS Red Butterfly Air Induction Hood, the front and side splitters, the rear fascia and diffuser with the high down-force rear wing showed the way Steve Saleen is looking at Mustangs today. I wanted to interpret it using my signature to create the latest Steve Saleen version of this American favorite."
