It's official folks, according to sales figures released from Ford Motor Company a new record monthly low for Mustang sales.  January 2009 is now on record for having the lowest Mustang sales ever in Ford's 45 year history of producing the Mustang.  The old record was just set a few months back in November with 3,667 units sold, January's sales were lower by 723 units.

Sales of Mustangs for January of 2009 were 2,944 compared to 6,545 from January of 2008 showing a 55% decrease in sales from the previous year. Year to date Mustang sales are 2,944 compared to 6,545 for 2008, which is a 55% drop.  I pretty much repeated myself since we only have one month of sales so far.  It will look a bit different after next months sales are posted.

One question I searched around for and could not find the answer to is how many Ford dealerships are in the US?  I know there are about 4400 Ford, Lincoln and Mercury dealerships combined but how many actual Ford dealerships that sell the Mustang.  I would guess there has to be upwards of 25oo Ford dealerships, so that means each dealership only sold 1 or so Mustangs, that is shocking.

If you are curious what previous month sales were than check out January 2008 , February 2008 , March 2008 , April 2008 , May 2008 , June 2008, July 2008, August 2008 , September 2008 , October 2008 , November 2008 and December 2008 sales figures.

  1. "puts things in perspective"

WOW. When you think about it like that, Some Ford dealerships most likely did not sell a Mustang in the month January. That is SCARY. It sucks right now is just not the time to buy vehicles, and a Mustang right now does not make sense. Also - New England is having a pretty bad winter, which is certainly going to drop Mustang sales...

  2. "Mustang Sales"

January and February have always been the worst months for car sales in general. It would be tough selling a mustang with a foot or two of snow on the ground!
