2011 Ford Mustang Gets 5.0-Liter V-8

According to several sources across the web Ford is indeed developing an all-new 32 valve 5.0L V8 engine with the code name 'Coyote' for a return in the 2011 Mustang GT and 2011 Ford F-150.  The all-new 5.0L V8 powerplant is said to have 400 horsepower and 400 ft-lbs of torque.  The new 5.0L V8 has been rumored for quite sometime and comes as no surprise to Mustang fans who knew Ford would have to do something to keep up with the new Challenger SRT8 and 2010 Camaro SS.  Ford has made no official announcement on the new 5.0L V8 as we expect it to stay that way until sometime in 2010.  With the refreshed 2010 Mustang GT coming with the 4.6L V8 in a few months Ford would not want to hinder sales of their new pony car by releasing info on the new 5.0L V8.

  1. "Finally."

400 HP and 400 FT/LBS out of a 5.0. Boy has technology come a long way. Going back to a 5.0 should help breathe some life back in

Finally! I hope this is true! They are making GTs that sell in the high $20K range wiht just over 300 HP and Shelby GT500 with over 500 HP for about $50K. We really need a choice in between and if this engine really has 400 HP and prices between the current GT and the Shelby it will be the first car since 2004 to fill that position since the SVT Cobra. I hope they are serious!!! It might even tempt some of us Terminator owners who want Ford power but can't afford a Shelby.

  4. "Trucker"

I'm a local driver around Windsor, ON. The new "coyote" will be built in the Ford Windsor Engine Plant. I've had all sorts of fixtures and other odds and ends with "coyote project" labeled on it. I asked about it and was told it's just "an engine" being built here.

  5. "oh yea baby finally"

Ford is doing the wrong thing waiting untill 11' because all the people out there are looking at the camaro know. I hope they come out in mid year of 010' because thts when I whant to buy and I dont whant my bro to beat me by less then 1 sec w/ the 4.6. since the 010' mustang w/ 4.6 is a half of a second slower then the new challenger. w/ the 5.0L 32 valve V-8 will defently whont be slower will win by alot.
    STANGS FOR LIFE!!!!!

So far all I've heard is that the 5.0L will b built here in Windsor, Ontario and is expected to push 400hp and 400 tq giving the ram a run for its money but recent news says it is exceeding expectations so it should be interesting to see what could compete.
It is also expected to get outstanding fuel economy.
(the Windsor engines will continue to b reliable and the best made.)cough(Cleveland)

  10. Ford NEEDS to have a "half-year" model with two needed improvements; The rumored 400 HP 5 liter V8 -- and a 6 speed auto tranny.
    Are you listening Ford?

  11. I wonder if it's going to be the Cammer 5.0 engine. The cammer also puts out 400 bhp and 400 lb/ft torque. Then again, the Cammer is an expensive engine, so it doesnt seem so likely.

  18. Ok. i love my Bullitt to death. but.... i would really like more HP in her. i was thinking about putting a kit on her but than i mod a classic/limited edition replica. i hate the new model rear panel and front grills. the new HP is def needed to compete with the camro sales. but im sorry for i have already made up my mind to get the newest camaro, v8, 420hp when they become available. a little too late ford!

  19. In '92, I bought a 5.0 LX hatchback. It is still my daily driver. When I found out Ford was bringing the 5.0 back, I thought to myself, that finally, a Mustang worthy of replacing my old ride. In 2013, I'm buying a new 5.0. Now if they would only bring back Twilight Clearcoat Metallic and let me match it with a Titanium interior.

  20. this is greta news! I own a 1989 5.0 mustang, I love it! and I just atarted working on restoring it, I might just stop and get me a new 2011 5.0 but Ford, better keep its word about the HP also Ford better make the new mustang better looking and with the same HP if not more than the Camaro...cause I was just thinking about switching of being a mustang fan to a Camaro fan
