Both cars had to be modified to be made street legal again for use as official police vehicles. The cars were also outfitted with the latest laser detection radar and a wide array of blue lights hidden in the grill, windows, taillights and mirrors. Both the Cobra and 350Z are now a part of the 24 car, unmarked fleet used by HITS to enforce traffic laws througout the Mecklenburg county.
o.k. so what if the owners sill making payments? Does the county buy the stang ?Thats a another example of how to waist tax payers money and gas !! And as far as taking someones ride thats just f*** up !

Captain Andy Kornberg “If you get caught street racing, we’re going to take your car and I’m going to enjoy driving it.” So what Im getting here is he is sick of driven the min van and if he sees a car he want he just pulls them over for street racing.

Robert Morton, you're an idiot.. And as for making the payments goes, the police department has to go through a process of seizing the car through the courts. This basically is like a repo, they take the car and then the collections offices take over and make the owner pay out that way. But the police legally own the car since it went through the process of being seized.

Well it is law and these idiots are endangering families like mine. I say lock them up take their cars and whatever else you can. Honestly I think it is hilarious that they are using the cars to bust other street racers that are to stupid to get directions to the nearet drag strip. Put it this way you hit me and kill my child your car is the last thing you should worry about because I will own you or worse!

Thats right Hollywood. The owner still has to pay for the car being seized just like he would if(LMAO)he still owned it.
You do the crime, be prepared to do the time and/or pay the fine. Guess he shouldn't have been street racing in a car he was still making payments on.
Street racing is illegal, if you feel the need to endanger your own life, drive your car off of a cliff, or something, don't endanger the lives of other people on the road. If you feel the need for speed, spend a little of your money, and go to a respective track. It's what they were built for. You'll find it's a lot of fun.

wow that is so f'ed up haha. I wish I could own a car as sick as a 03-04 cobra but there still too expensive. I can't imagine buying a car like that only to have police confiscate it. I'd rather get a huge fine than lose a $25,000 car $$ used in mods.

SVT rob I guarantee you don't own an svt cobra like ur name suggests, because if you did you would race all the time. Racing doesn't mean weaving in and out of traffic on a busy highway like ricers do, racing can be just you and one other car on a completely open parkway at 1 in the morning or something and u both race from 30-90 or something. That warrants losing ur car? so you can speed doing 90 and get like a $300-$500 ticket, but if u and another car are both speeding next to eachother then u can lose a 25-30 thousand dollar car? that's bs. Unless that guy and the other "Racer" were driving like retards in a side street or something I can't see why you'd get ur car confiscated. I own a 99 z28 and I'm not going to go 40 miles to a track everytime I want to put the pedal to a floor for a couple of runs. I hope these police use good judgement with this type of stuff.

stangtattoo, it depends who "these idiots" are. I street race on open 3 lane roads at night. No trees to the side no place for something to just "jump out" at me. If anything I run into the person I am racing, which serves us right and its a risk we willingly take. But thinking like you I say if someone is putting up makeup while driving, they should have their car taken. If you talk on the cell phone while driving (which causes as many accidents as drunk driving even with ear pieces..look it up) you should have your car taken too.

This is complete BS. Fines yeah thats the way this should go, suspension of liscense okay. Stealing an americans personal property is theft and an indication of our communist nation. What about the bill of rights, oh thats right our congress and senate piss on it daily. They take and take until theirs nothing left. Then what its not so funny then. When you got nothing left, no rights is it funny then? Wake up people. Id rather burn my car than have those pricks steal it.

Tom , It's the law! In N.C. you have the privilege to own a N.C. driver's license and to drive, its not a right. If you abuse it you lose it. On your behalf, i agree with about taking the license away (depending on the charge), But we dont know if this person has been caught before speeding or racing, and tickets or suspenion didnt teach him anything.

I dont give a damn what the law is. Stealing is stealing. Just cause they got a badge don't make it right. Suspend the guys license. driving is a priveledge. So take his licese not his car. It is his property. Let him sell it at least to get some money back to pay his court costs. You communist bastard!

Tom you dumbass, the court system rules on whether or not the police can keep the vehicle for there use, or the vehicle must be sold at a city/county auction. Taking ones drivers license any has been done before, but in some case they still want to drive on the roads. Now this is why the vehicle is taken away. like i said before, the driver might have gotten his/her license suspended, and that just didnt get their attention and a more harsh punishment was done. I dont know her/her side of story. I just know the law here in NC. Or you can learn more about N.C. traffic laws online or at a local library. Better yet, just come to N.C. and speed down one of our wonderful highways and take a "hands-on" lesson. Maybe you can complain to a trooper,....while he (trooper) is shampooing your head with his flashlight.

I find it funny that if I get caught street racing on a fist offense, I lose my car, and in some places send time in jail, but if I drive drunk on a first offense, I get a bullshit slap on the wrist ticket and that's it. Guess instead of getting a run on a backroad with no civillian traffic I'll park the stang in the garage, slam a fifth of Captain Morgan, get in my truck and slam into a bus full of first graders. The punishment will be less severe.
