Ford Considering New Twin Turbo EcoBoost V6 For 2010 Mustang

Apparently Motor Trend is reporting Ford is seriously considering adding another V6 engine choice for the 2010 Mustang along with replacing the aged 4.6L with a 5.0L motor.  The V6 engine choice would be the new Twin Turbo EcoBoost V6 engine that is scheduled to debut in a performance version of the Fusion.  The TT EcoBoost V6 engine is capable of up to 415 horsepower and similar torque numbers of regular V8 engines.  The reason Ford is contemplating the new V6 engine choice is to get a head start on meeting the 35mpg regulations by 2020.  Nothing has been confirmed and it would be a long shot to see a twin turbo V6 in a Mustang but it does make sense.

On the V8 engine front MT is also reporting Ford will be replacing the aged 4.6L engine with a new 5.0L motor for the 2010 Mustang and we might even see the 5.0L engine in a limited run of Mustangs at the end of the 2009 model year.  All this is great news if we could really get some cold hard facts to back it up.  Until then we can all just cross our fingers and hope for the best.

  2. Agreed theres no point in having a mustang if it isnt a v8, and a stock turbo makes me feel like an import, unless its aftermarket then its a diff story because most people put them in for performance

  3. "V6 upgrade important"

There are two flavors of Mustangs.Mustangs don't always need to have a v8 to be considered a true stang.Consider the 6 to be the classic cruiser pony car and the 8 to be the muscle class.I guarantee that if you put the difference in cost between the v6 and v8 back into the v6,you will have a far superior car.I've seen it & the look on GT driver faces are CLASSIC.Here's to a better v6 that will push v8s into the future.

  4. I think a v6 with twins would be a great building block to kill the V8 guys that dont have the money to FI and to turn the STI and EVO guys heads. Anyone that had been around turbo V6s know you dont loose the muscle when going to an FI V6, remember the Supra, a few mods and 500+HP, the GMC typhoon and syclone with a few mods with 400-500HP, and the secred grand national that people still pay 35k for just to get the V6 turbo 4.3...

  5. OK....Remember the mid-80's SVO project. I had a 1984, 4cly turbo and it cost almost 4grand more than the 5.0 ver. But it was a running machine but with turbo's staying on top of fresh oil is a must those units turn red as fire under heavy driving but a lot of fun blowing back v8's with a hopped up factory pinto engine. If ford goes with this egine package , I will be tradeing my very low milage 2003gt on one.
