Mustang Sales End 2005 with 161K Units Sold

Ford Mustang Sales for the 2005 S197 Mustang totaled 160,975 cars, representing a 24 percent increase over 2005. December sales, however, were 10,226 units which marked the second consecutive month of declining deliveries.


Ford's 2005 sales, reported on January 5th were a mixed bag of ups and downs. The company's December sales were down nine percent compared to 2004 and calendar year shipments were off by five percent.



The company's revised focus on passenger cars is beginning to pay off, however. For the first time since 1999, car sales increased over the previous year. At just over a million cars, the gain is a two per cent increase, but it marks a reversal in suitability of Ford's product offerings.



Ford Five Hundred sales jumped dramatically, while deliveries of the Fusion and its siblings continue their climb to relevance. Significantly, the much-ignored Taurus topped both the December and Calendar Year unit sales list. Read that again - no other passenger car nameplate sold more units last year than Taurus.
"Consumer response to our new mid-size sedans has exceeded our expectations," said Steve Lyons, Ford group vice president, North America Marketing, Sales, and Service. "We're confident we can build on our car sales success in 2006."



Despite a fall of four percent, F-Series trucks still shipped over 900,000 units in 2005, marking the first time in over 30 years any product has posted back-to-back sales years above this level. Ford's F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle, car or truck, for 24 years in a row and the best-selling truck for 29 years in a row.
