The new Ferrari is expected to see uninhibited daylight for the first time at the Paris show this October. Until then - or shortly before, what with embargos breaking like they do - we'll have to make do with the details we can scrape together. So far, that means that we can tell you the new Ferrari is about 50cm (20in) shorter than a 612 Scaglietti that was testing at the same track. Connecting the new chassis with other trends and rumours at the house of the Prancing Horse, there's a chance that the power for the new car could come from a 450hp direct-injection V8, says Quattroruote. The one thing we know for sure is that the engine is mounted up front. Oh, and it's a Ferrari. Not a hearse.

Well, the wheels alone suggest it's a Ferrari. I'm intrigued by the fact that this is a front-engined Ferrari with small rear-seats that's not going to compete with the 612. If you couple that with the rather flimsy nature of the "hearse" roof, I think they're testing this for scuttle-shake. Yep, I'm going to go out on a limb and predict that this is a new convertible (or actually some sort of retractable hard-top) to compete with all those Coupe-Convertible cars that Europe has been getting so excited about recently. I expect you guys will keep me honest if I'm wrong in about 8 months!

I think that ROY is correct. Ferrari has tradmarked the name "California" just recently, and that name can only mean convertible. I believe it is the Ferrari 599 GT California. Let's just hope they keep the weight down by using a conventional cloth top instaed of a retract. hardtop. If you look closely at the spy pic, you can see the cover for the convertible top right under the "trunk" thing.

all good theories guys...but dont you think that if a manufacturer was out testing their car they would be using all the tactics in the book to try and make sure they made you look at another manufacturer utilising their body parts.....this may not be a Ferrari at all.

It IS some sort of Ferrari because it was running laps at Fiorano. Also, this model was too short to be based on a 599 and since the engine is in the front it's not a F430 California.

It has to be a Ferrari to be running in Fiornao. Could be Maserati, but highly doubt it since the split and regrouping Maserati with Alfa.
I think Roy might be right, i think this is a convertible as well, it seems to have a retractable hard top underneath the boot

A convertable version of the 599 GTB Fiorano ? it looks a bit too small for that.
Could be the Dino we all want to be made !!!

Is it the new model under the F430, there has been alot of chat about it lately, it was semi based on the 599 / 612 base but shortned
ferrari building a model to against the new M3 convertible, it would be interesting if it was a F430 coupe convertible. wonder what other car models it would have to compete against in the same league. Other convertible i can think of would be aston martin vantage, BMW M3, Mercedes Benz CLK63 / SL63 and the Maserati Gran turismo (when its out) 200?
they always like to say no to new models and they seem to turn up, interesting
