Kimi Raikonnen buys Corvette owned by Sharon Stone

Reigning Formula 1 world champion Kimi Raikonnen has shelled out €200,000 for a 1974 Chevrolet Corvette ('73 model pictured) once owned by Hollywood actress Sharon Stone. Raikonnen bought the car at a charity event for the Elton John Aids Foundation on the eve of the Monaco Grand Prix.

Raikonnen's new Corvette has just four miles on the odometer and is currently stored in Los Angeles - apparently none of the original owners drove it much. While €200,000 may seem a little expensive for a Corvette the price Kimi paid paled in comparison to Indian billionaire Vijay Mallya's €226,000 acquisition of a piano used by Elton John for composing his 2001 album "Songs from the West Coast," Reuters reports.

Mallya, owner of the Force India Formula 1 team also donated a one-week cruise on one of his mega-yachts, which went for €375,000 to a private bidder. In total, the auction raised almost €1 million.

BTW, that picture is of a 1973 Corvette... the only year that had the plastic front bumper and the chrome rear bumper. The '74 had plastic bumpers front and rear.

    Good looking car.
Not worth that, but good looking nonetheless.
I wonder if Chevrolet will ever bring that back, ala the Challenger, Camar and Mustang. Would be cool to see an old Stingray shape with a modern car underneath...

That picture makes me feel old. It reminds me of my father's '78 Corvette, same basic car but had a glass hatch in the rear. I remember my parents putting my toddler butt into the back of the 'Vette and going out on the weekends. No seatbelts (that were ever used). No child safety seats. No airbags. No ABS. No traction control. (How did I ever survive to grow into adulthood?)

    It did have a nice 8-Track player though. ~ I - I - I - I'm stayin' alive, stayin' alive. ~
