We all know electric cars are quick off the line but it seems even the quickest internal combustion cars don’t hold a candle to the new generation of battery-powered, zero-emission offerings.

Racing driver Archie Hamilton recently pitted the Concept_One electric supercar from Croatian firm Rimac against a Ferrari [NYSE:RACE] LaFerrari. The cars went head to head in a quarter mile race but unfortunately there are no numbers to report on.

In multiple runs, the Concept_One “absolutely destroys” the LaFerrari, according to Hamilton, who was behind the wheel of the Italian exotic. That’s a pretty accurate description judging by the video posted to his YouTube channel.  And for good measure the Concept_One was also pitted against a Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA] Model S P90D with Ludicrous mode and the result was pretty much the same.

With the instantaneous torque of its electric motors as well as all-wheel drive, the Concept_One coming out on top wasn’t hard to predict. What’s impressive though is just how badly it beats the competition. And what’s even more impressive is that the Concept_One is just the first offering from Rimac. The company has already previewed a lighter, more powerful version of the car dubbed the Concept_S.

Rimac is still fine tuning the Concept_One but has previously stated that the starting price will be $980,000. That might seem steep but, as the video above demonstrates, we’re talking about the fastest electric car to be built and sold to the public. According to Rimac, the 1,088-horsepower car will hit 62 mph from rest in 2.6 seconds, pass 124 mph in 6.2 seconds, pass 186 mph in 14.2 seconds and eventually top out at 220 mph.

One major unknown, though, is how long charge in the Concept_One’s 82-kilowatt-hour battery will last when the car is pushed to the limit for extended periods of time, such as at a race track.
