There was a time when the fastest car in production came from a little-known German firm with the unusual name Gumpert. The car, labeled the Apollo Sport (shown below), managed to lap Germany’s Nürburgring in a time of 7:11.57, a time it achieved all the way back in 2009 and still considered one of the fastest laps at the track for a production car. What made the effort all the more impressive is that the time was achieved using a car with only rear-wheel drive.
Nevertheless, Gumpert went bankrupt three years later and its assets sold off to Chinese group Consolidated Ideal TeamVenture. The good news is that the group has revived Gumpert, which now operates under the name Apollo and has the original Gumpert team including founder Roland Gumpert running the show.

Apollo will be present at next week’s 2016 Geneva Motor Show where it will unveil a new supercar, a few teaser shots of which have already been released. No other details have been released but from the teasers it looks like the car will feature a sleek, modern design and plenty of carbon fiber.
Apollo has also hinted that it will continue to offer the previous Gumpert Apollo supercar, albeit in updated form. The updated car, to be called the Apollo N, will also be on display at the Geneva Motor Show. From the single teaser above, we can see that it retains the aggressive look of the former Gumpert Apollo.
