Aston Martin's new Vulcan supercar has arrived down under at New Zealand's Highlands Motorsports Park, an appropriate place for the V-12 monster that was designed specifically for track use.

With 800 horsepower on tap, the Vulcan is Aston Martin's answer to the Ferrari XX cars and the McLaren P1 GTR, meaning it isn't actually legal on public roads in most places.

The video is basically eye candy, but there's really nothing wrong with that when the star is a car as shapely and downright sinister as the Vulcan—not to mention as rare. Just 24 Vulcans are slated to be built, three of which are headed to the United States.

The Vulcan is basically a World Endurance Championship race car without any sponsor logos covering its shapely body panels. It sends all of its power to the rear wheels via a 6-speed sequential gearbox, meaning it isn't for the faint-hearted.

That's because the cars are intended to be part of a development program for (well-heeled) up-and-coming racers. Acquiring one of the two dozen Vulcans qualifies the owner for training with Aston Martin works driver and Le Mans winner Darren Turner.

In other words, it's logical to say that the Vulcan is not your average Aston Martin.
