In 2014, Toyota rolled out a subcompact crossover concept at the Paris Auto Show. The concept vehicle, dubbed the C-HR, previewed an upcoming rival to the Nissan Juke that may end up packing a hybrid powertrain. Now, Toyota has arrived at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and an updated C-HR has joined the party.

A production version of the C-HR is close to becoming a reality, with prototypes spotted in the wild for close to a year now. This second concept version gives us a more accurate look at what to expect for the production version.

Under the skin, the new subcompact crossover will ride on Toyota's TNGA modular platform, which made its debut in the 2016 Prius. With the TNGA platform, Toyota aims to reduce weight, increase rigidity, and improve efficiency. That should prove to be all pluses for fans of the brand, as the cars are already quite efficient.

And the subcompact crossover should add some styling funk to a fairly simple lineup and could help sway buyers with what we assume will be a highly efficient powertrain.

When might we see the car finally unveiled? The current thinking is at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next March.
